What is Parkinson's Disease?

Parkinson's Disease is a progressive neurological condition that affects movement and becomes worse over time.


People with Parkinson's Disease may experience the following:

  • Tremors
  • Rigidity
  • Postural instability
  • Slow movements
  • Cognitive changes
  • Speech and swallowing changes

How can I access Speech Therapy for Parkinson's Disease?

If you or your loved one is under the age of 65, you/they may be eligible for the NDIS.


Speech Pathology support can be accessed via Improved Daily Living funding in a participant's plan.

If you or your loved one is over the age of 65 and living at home, you/they may be eligible for a Home Care Package.


A Speech Pathology assessment can be organised through your package.

You or your loved one may access Speech Pathology via an Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) Plan through your GP. 


An EPC plan supports those with a chronic condition to access up to 5 allied health sessions annually at a subsidised rate.
